"Transparent and Sweet", 2015, Oil/Panel, 24x18"
1. Pick what you think is his most interesting artwork on his website. Why? How is the composition of the detail of the figure? Why is the idea of it interest to you?
- "Transparent And Sweet" is my favourite artwork of his because the giant vivid bubble-like figure. The bubbles looked like there's an explosion that's spreading from a person's mind and the bubble is going to pop out infinitely. By looking at the lower part of the artwork, the body can also refer back to the bubble because the way that the colar bones shrug inward and the carved YOLO text show person's crazy imagination which can even pop out sweet bubbles. On the other hand, the bony body and bloody text may tell the sufferings and hardships that the person had been through.
- The composition of the bubble refers the most about the wild feeling of the bubble because larger bubbles are mostly placed at the back while smaller bubbles are placed on top of the larger ones. Different ranges of the sizes provide a growing and extending sense which makes the artwork more alive. Also, the composition of the text represents the person's mind because it's carved right on the chest which implies the heart.

2. How would you do portraiture to make it different?
- If I can do an atypical portraiture, I would combine features of different animals, as well as human's characteristics. The reason that I choose these elements is because animals and humans have a relationship in some ways, as a consequence, audiences can make more connections based on the weirdness that they look at.

- This idea is inspired by a London comtemporary animator/portraitist called Ray Caesar. His two biggest inspirations came from his tough childhood memories and his 17 years personal experience of working in an art therapy program in the Hospital For Sick Children in Toronto. After working in the art and photography therapy for so many years, his artwork was hugely influenced by how he consider his job was to chronicle the sufferings and pains that the kids could never get through. In order to express his feeling, he started to create a series of grotesque childlike creatures that is against a fairy tale. Caesar also included the dark side of human nature and sexual innuendo in some of his artworks.
- I think not only the way that both Christian and Ray created their figures is similar, the ideas behind their topics might also be interchangeable since they all expressed a sense of unusualness successfully.
