1. Reason I chose:
The reasons I chose this work is because I think the way the artist used collage to show the meanings behind the work is very creative. By pasting words and pictures from newspaper on the artwork, both current and old-aged information are easily demonstrated together. Different languages, characters, and events show how the person in the middle was embraced and annoyed by them. I think while elements are displayed in the artwork explictly, the meanings are deep and unforgettable.
Strength:
- the contrast of black and white provides a strong feeling of the explosion from the man.
- the composition helps audience's eyes to transfer from the man to the white bits.
- the collage technique provides lots of information which brings creativeness.
weakness:
- the meaning behind the white bits can be demonstrated more significant.
- it's a bit confusing that where on the man do the white bits come from? from heart or hands?
Compare:
I think the left one is stronger because the composition is more interesting than the right one even though both of them are very specific in details. By looking far away at the left one, the colors black and white are very bright and conspicious. However, when I look into the work, I will naturally move from the specific side to the loose side. As a consequence of its smart composition, it appears creativeness inside the meaning.
1. Reason I chose:
The first thing that grabs me in this artwork is the contrast between the sizes of all the elements in it.The artist put lots of details in the salmon fish and the hand which brings the key things forward from the background. Moreover, since sushi is my favourite food,the salmon sushi in the back catched me a lot.
Strength:
- the color is very bright and eye catching, which helps the artwork to stand out more.
- the material that artist used is very unique can attractive.
- although the color is matte, but it creates a sense of surrealism.
Weakness:
- The hand can be illustarted more. Maybe holding a chopstick or knife can make the theme stronger.
- showing more elements might infer more about the purpose.
