Global Warming.

Why is global warming a social issue?

- Since climate change affiliates every country around the world, all societies would have to face the disasters that global warning would bring. The inevitable environmental disaster is not just destructing the trees or buildings, but also affecting population, starvation, poverty, and even financial problem. Once humans are no longer controlling and caring this issue, the destructive natural disasters will eventually lead to the disappearance of education and knowledge.

#2 Real Life Example:

(Drought):

- SInce Precipitation has declined in the tropics and subtropics since 1970, more and more areas in different countries are getting very low moisture underground. According to a news that BBC reported in 2006, the extreme dry climate change is hitting Africa hugely, not only temperature was affecting but also their population. After years of low humidity, Africa's agriculture was gradually being brought down which affiliated the increase of poverty in Africa. For example, most of the native African family couldn't receive enough food supply and clean water.

- it's a social issue because although this only happened in Africa, but the situation of the climate change does not just stay in one country or area. Now, the effects were being shown among Africans and it's spreading towards the whole societies around the globe.

Which case is the most influencial one?

- I think the second case that happened in Africa is the most influencial case of global warming because well-knowned arid problem in Africa has been lasted for so many years and it's an urgent issue that we cannot solve. As the dry weather is maintaining longer and longer, more and more kids and young people will get illed and hungered by getting little food supply which will certainly affect Africa's population.

#1 Real Life Example:

(Polar)

- As the world's industries and manufatures are developing drastically, the temperature in polar region starts to increase years by years. Not just polar bears and penguins are the sign of the 'melting' process, but temperature, greenhouse gases, and ice sheets are also being damaged. Scientist's prediction had told that the shrinking of greenland ice sheets in Arctic can cause the rise of sea-level because it will cause the icebergs to melt even faster.

- It's a social issue because the acceleration of ocean-level is not just about one country but everywhere on the world. The more people don't pay attention about global warming, the more it will harm the earth.

#3 Real Life Example: (Singapore)

- In 2013, scientists in Singapore predicted the sea level will rise at least 90 cm before the end of the century. The unstopptable increase of sea level in each year is concluded to be the impact of global climate change, and it can not only affect SIngapore's environment, but also evey Singaporean's lives.

- NUS Assistant Professor Kua Harn-Wei from Singapore was concerned about the influencial climate change can affect Singaporeans faster than scientists predicted: “Rising sea levels may be just one of the many effects. We are going to get more complicated effects like stronger winds, greater storms and more flash floods. Those are the problems that we need to get ready and prepared for."

- The annual mean surface temperature has increased about 0.8°C since 1948.

- The mean sea level in the Straits of Singapore has also increased by about 3 mm per year over the past 15 years.

Despite sea level rise, the ways that climate change affects Singapore's society:

      1. water supply:

Intense rainfall brought drought to many areas in Singapore which decreases the amount of water supply and water resources.

      2. Biodiversity and greenery:

SIngapore's ecosystem has been hugely damaged within recent years. The increasing temperature from 1.5°C to 2.5°C could bring plants and animals at risk.

       3. Effect on public health:

The warm weather in Singapore causes diseases and bacterias to spread widely among the crowded society. As Singapore's temperature is getting warmer, the rate of citizens getting sick and heat stress is gradually increasing as well.
